Down for the count
This is one ugly game.
Here’s the line of Red Sox starter Matt Clement: 4 1/3 innings, nine hits, eight earned runs, four walks, four strikeouts, two trainer visits to the mound, and thousands of boos. Clement threw 96 pitches and was never the same after nearly getting drilled in the second inning.
Julian Tavarez is in the game in the fifth inning, Boston down by three, 8-5. That’s right, the fifth. What’s that timestamp say, 9:09 or something? It’s really that ugly.
For his part, Johnson has settled down somewhat over his last two innings of work, but has also thrown 84 pitches through four.
