If pre-game warm-ups were any indication, expect Johnny Damon to be roundly jeered tonight.
As Damon emerged from the Yankees dugout for batting practice just past 5:30, he was greeted with a rather loud negative reception from the couple thousand or so early arrivals at Fenway Park, with a smattering of just a few cheers, attempting desperately to drown out the boos.
“No hair, no beard, no loyalty, no soul,” read one woman’s sweatshirt.
With all the returns to Fenway tonight – Damon, Doug Mirabelli, and Mike Myers – how could Yankees coach Joe Kerrigan have slipped through the cracks? The former Red Sox pitching coach and…um, manager, was hanging out along the third base line during Yankees batting practice speaking with ESPN’s Peter Gammons.
