High-priced parking
A line of at least 300 people deep queued down Lansdowne Street just before 10 this morning, hoping for last-minute seats to today’s home opener at Fenway between the Red Sox and Blue Jays. Simmons College students Jennifer Boiar and Brian Cameau were first in line, proudly announcing that they had claimed their spot at 1 p.m. yesterday.
It is Opening Day, after all, the hottest annual ticket in town. That seems to go for parking as well.
In what might be a record for Opening Day, a parking spot at Boylston St.’s Leahy Mobil lot will run you $90 for matinees and postseason games. It seems to go with the Sprint PCS plan, knocking down its rate to $45 for nights and weekends. Bargain.
A spokesperson for Leahy’s would not comment on how business had been, but to no surprise, the lot was empty at 10:10 a.m. The Burger King lot a block down the street, on the other hand, was charging $30 and was already full, and the LAZ lot directly behind the Mobil station, steps from Gate D, went for $35.
Parking pricing varied around Fenway, but $30 spots could be found at the Boylston St. McDonald’s, the LAZ lot at the corner of Ipswich and Van Ness, and at the Landsdowne St. garage adjacent to the new and improved Cask N’ Flagon. The Fenway Shell, also on Boylston, will run you $50.
