Deal appears imminent
The Red Sox have called a news conference at Fenway Park for 3 p.m., at which time it is expected they will announce a contract extension for slugger David Ortiz.
Recently, ESPNDeportes had reported that David Ortiz and the team had agreed on a four-year contract extension for $50 million. That report was denied by Ortiz, who is currently signed through next season.
Ortiz is coming off his most productive season in the majors, one in which he slugged 47 home runs, drove in 148, and finished second to Alex Rodriguez in the Most Valuable Player voting.
