Boston Red Sox

Up and roaring

Be it today’s 4 p.m. start time, or a general case of laissez faire in Red Sox Nation, their team down 0-2 in the division series against the White Sox, but the seats at Fenway were filled less than halfway as Carl Beane began the pregame introductions about 10 minutes before scheduled game time.

In perhaps the final game of the year at Fenway, no player got the rude treatment from those on hand. Even Kevin Millar was cheered emphatically. The loudest ovation was saved for last, as the fans gave Tony Graffanino an extended reception.

— In a nifty twist, former Red Sox outfielder Tom Brunansky threw out the ceremonial first pitch. It was Brunansky, of course, who made the legendary sliding catch in right field against the White Sox that sealed the AL East title for the 1990 Red Sox. The player who hit the line drive that Brunansky caught? Current Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen.
