Boston Red Sox

Natural appearance

The Natural, Robert Redford, caused a stir on the field during the Yankees’ pregame warm-ups, as he strolled around the home plate circumference followed by a gaggle of photographers. Redford was enjoying his first-ever visit to Fenway Park.

Also on the field prior to game time was FOX newsman Bill O’Reilly, doing an interview with “Access Hollywood.” Former Sox lefty Alan Embree, now with the Yankees, was a popular destination for a number of his former teammates.

Meanwhile, Hall of Famer Wade Boggs was busy signing autographs for fans prior to joining Tom Caron and Dennis Eckersley on NESN’s pre-game show at RemDawg’s. The Red Sox are honoring the former Red Sox and Yankee third baseman in a pre-game ceremony this evening. The recent Cooperstown addition was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004.

The Fenway press box is a relative madhouse, with media members packing every nook and cranny, jockeying for whatever seat they can find. Add one part New York media throng, one large Boston contingent, and a slew of national media covering one of the biggest season-ending series baseball has seen in years, and this is what you get.

This year’s AL East race is the closest entering the final weekend since the 1990 Red Sox led the Blue Jays by one game en route to taking the division by two. Is Tom Brunansky in the house?
