This year, 174 charities partnered with athletes to raise money ahead of the 129th Boston Marathon, with 18 new charities on the list.

Many Boston Marathon participants run for a cause. And this year, 174 charities partnered with athletes to raise money ahead of the 129th Boston Marathon.

The Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program provides entries to thousands of runners who raise at least $5,000 for a nonprofit organization.

This year, there are 18 new charities added to the list, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Every Mother Counts, and World Central Kitchen. The nonprofits support a range of causes, from heath care to food insecurity to recreational activity promotion.
