Zachary Stinson and Alicia Dana have defended their titles as Boston Marathon champions in handcycling
They are both three-time champions. Stinson finished the 2024 race Monday with a time of 1:02:12.
The mark is more than nine minutes faster than his time of 1:11:51 that secured last yea’s win.
Stinson is a double amputee who lost his legs after stepping on improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan while serving with Marines.
He began competing in 2012, starting with the Marine Corps Marathon. He has now won three of the last four Boston Marathon hand cycling titles.
Dana told WCVB earlier this week that she intends to retire following the race. She finished the course Monday in 1:15:20, breaking the course record she set last year.
The Vermont native was paralyzed from the waist down during an accident at age 17 in 1986 after falling from a tree.
She made the U.S Paralympics Cycling National Team in 2001 before taking a hiatus from the sport to raise her daughter. She returned in 2011, and medaled in two Olympics with Team USA before winning her first Boston Marathon in 2018.
Canadian Julien Pinsonneault and May Lim won the men’s duo division, finishing in 2:54:43. Pinsonneault is the Guinness World Record holder for fastest half marathon pushing a wheelchair.
