In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your #WhyImRunningBoston story here.

Name: Libby Leyden
Age: 28
From: San Francisco, California

I am running in memory of my grandfather who died in 2017 from a stroke, his second stroke of his lifetime. I feel truly humbled to run with Tedy’s Team and spread awareness about stroke and heart disease. As a lifetime runner, to race in the Boston Marathon is a complete bucket list task and I could not imagine doing it any other way than running to continue my grandfather’s legacy of teaching people about the signs, symptoms, and prevention of a stroke. Tedy’s Team is a fantastic group of people from all walks of life who truly inspire me to keep running even on the days when it’s difficult. As Tedy Bruschi himself would say: You know what we do — we Survive, we run!
