Ludovit Cap is running his 45th consecutive Boston Marathon
"I know every pothole from Hopkinton to Boston, and I am living for running this great event every year."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your #WhyImRunningBoston story here.
Name: Ludovit Cap
Age: 74
From: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
My name is Dr. Ludovit Cap. I was born on September 23, 1945 in Nitra, Slovakia, and I am a dual citizen of the U.S. and Slovakia. I have a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics, but I am working as tennis coach here at Van der Meer Tennis in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Running is my life and I cannot imagine a day without it.
This year will be my 45th consecutive year of running the Boston Marathon. I am a member of Quarter Century Club, which is a club for people who ran 25+ consecutive Boston Marathons. We are a tightly knit group, and have annual meetings at the starting line in Hopkinton. I know every pothole from Hopkinton to Boston, and I am living for running this great event every year.
Training hard the whole year, the reward is to spend a few hours on the marathon track coming to Boston, and it’s priceless. People ask me how long will I do it, and for me the answer is very simple: as long as I am able to. Hopefully I can inspire some people, and as I always say: yes, you can do it, if you put your mind into it.
