Jimmy Tully is running for his mother, a breast cancer survivor

"I’ll be running in her honor and for everyone who is fighting for the ultimate goal…a world without cancer."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your #WhyImRunningBoston story here.

Name: Jimmy Tully
Age: 30
From: Boston, Massachusetts

Jimmy Tully is running the Boston Marathon for his mother, a breast cancer survivor, and for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Running the Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine for some time now. I wanted to challenge myself to accomplish something completely out of my element and comfort zone. Prior to training, I don’t think I’ve ran more than 3 miles at once!

When I was selected to join the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team, it was a no-brainer for me. I was not going to pass up on a chance to contribute to an organization that continues to have such a positive impact on the lives of so many affected by cancer, particularly my mother, who is a breast cancer survivor. I’ll be running in her honor and for everyone who is fighting for the ultimate goal…a world without cancer.
