The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has announced the start times for the 2020 Boston Marathon, the 124th edition of the race that will be held on Monday, April 20.

Athletes will depart from Hopkinton at 10 different times, depending on their division. This year’s 26.2-mile trek includes 31,000 participants.

The most notable change in 2020 is that the Elite Men will now start before the Elite Women. Per the BAA:

“To minimize the amount of passing of athletes down course, the Elite Men’s Division will start eight minutes prior to the Elite Women’s Division. This change is being implemented to help increase the safety of athletes within the Elite Women’s Division start, who in previous years were at risk of being overtaken by both the Elite Men and their accompanying lead vehicles in the second half of the race route. Now, with the change in start times, the potential for athletes being overtaken by vehicles down course will greatly be reduced.

In addition to increased safety, the change in start times will allow more exclusive television coverage of the Elite Women’s race in the final miles.”

Here are all the start times, which the BAA notes are subject to change:

  • Men’s Wheelchair, 9:02 a.m. ET
  • Women’s Wheelchair, 9:05 a.m. ET
  • Handcycles & Duos, 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Elite Men, 9:37 a.m. ET
  • Elite Women, 9:45 a.m. ET
