I will be running the 123rd Boston Marathon in support of Dana-Farber. I was 15 years old when my mother was first diagnosed with cancer. For over half of my life now, cancer has been an ever present challenge for my family. After receiving care in Connecticut for years, my mother became a Dana-Farber patient in 2011 when she received a stem cell transplant for her myelodysplastic syndrome. Though the journey has not been easy, we know how incredibly fortunate we are for the care that my mother has received through Dana-Farber. My family has cried tears of sadness and tears of joy throughout the years and feel very blessed that 15 years from her initial diagnosis, my mother is still here with us today.
I moved to Boston in 2010. Running a marathon has always been on my bucket list, and I feel very privileged to run my first marathon in the city that I love while I give back to an organization that has done so much for me and my family. My fundraising goal is $10,000. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today’s most promising basic cancer research. It is my hope that through the funds raised more families can be as blessed as mine has been.
See you at the finish line!
