Running the Boston Marathon has been a lifelong goal of mine, one I wrote down while watching runners pass by the mile marker when I was in elementary school. I have grown up running and come from a family with generations of Boston Marathon runners. I ran my first half marathon at 15, and now as a 20-year-old college student, I will be running my first marathon for IMPACT Melanoma. When I was eleven, my great grandfather, Jack Coville, passed away from melanoma. Following his passing, two of my great uncles ran for IMPACT Melanoma in his memory. This past fall, after losing my teammate Mika McKinney to osteosarcoma, I knew this was my year to run. Additionally, as a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, IMPACT Melanoma is special to me because it focuses on the prevention of melanoma through providing education, awareness, and support for people affected by melanoma. Training for Boston has allowed me an extra opportunity every day to celebrate life, remember those who we have lost to cancer, and honor those who are currently fighting it. I cannot wait to toe the finish line in two months! A huge shout out goes to everyone who has contributed to my campaign so far. You are part of something great, and I appreciate you all.Check out our entire “Why I’m Running” series.
