I am running my first and last marathon next month to bring my Boston Marathon story full circle. I am fundraising for the Bill Belichick Foundation to provide coaching, mentorship, and financial support to individuals, communities, and organizations (with a focus on football and lacrosse), but my story only starts there. My family and I were on Boylston awaiting my sister’s first Boston Marathon finish in 2013 when the bombs went off. We were a few hundred feet away from the second bomb and were uninjured. However, we were still left shaken by and angry about the events of that day. As a senior at Northeastern in the fall of 2013, I remember being glued to my TV from the time President Obama addressed the nation until the time we all ended up at a boat in Watertown. When the Sox won the World Series, I went back to my same spot on Boylston. I am running for Krystle, Martin, Lingzi, and Sean. I am running for everyone who was hurt or just shaken up by the events of 2013. I’m running because Patton Oswalt’s words in the wake of the bombing still resonate with me today: “So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.’”Check out our entire “Why I’m Running” series.
