My name is Adrienne Dion, and I am so excited to be running my third Boston Marathon with Team BMC! In 2012, my mom suffered a traumatic brain injury when she fell off her bike while we were on our family summer vacation in Nantucket. Because of the extent of her injury, she was med flighted to Boston Medical Center for advanced treatment. She spent most of her six-day stay at BMC in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. My dad and I were there from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day and were able to witness the incredible, round-the-clock care that my mother received. Within five days she moved to the step-down unit to prepare for discharge to begin her recovery at home. The care, support, and unbelievable treatment that my mother received from the nurses and doctors at BMC saved her life. Because of them, she was able to make an incredible full recovery, and I will never be able to thank the staff enough. This is the reason why I choose to run for Team BMC — to support a hospital that I will be forever grateful for so that other families can benefit from the same amazing care that mine did. BMC truly provides exceptional care, without exception.Running the Boston Marathon is a feeling you can’t explain unless you experience it. The energy of the crowd throughout the entire course is what carries you from the start all the way until that final left on Boylston. I cannot wait to line up in Hopkinton this April and hope that I can reach my goal of raising another $10K for BMC, bringing my total to over $30K!Check out our entire “Why I’m Running” series.
