Molly Huddle needs ‘an emergency root canal’ after 13th-place Boston Marathon finish
The elite American runner shared the update after her 'awful', 'frozen' Boston debut.
Despite a challenging final few miles, Molly Huddle still finished her Boston Marathon debut. Unfortunately, she now appears to be headed for some dental work.

The 33-year-old Providence resident, who owns several American women’s records in distance running, was hoping to improve upon her professional marathon debut in New York in 2016 when she finished third. For much of the race, Huddle was in position to achieve such a result, following a little ways behind eventual U.S. winner Desiree Linden.
Yet Huddle struggled over the final part of the race, winding up 13th (2:50:28). And according to a post-race tweet, she now needs an emergency root canal:
Well, my marathon was awful, Iām frozen and I need an emergency root canal Tuesday but I am still in a legitimately good mood because it happened- an American woman won Boston and she has more than payed her dues! Huge congrats @des_linden – Iām proud to share the road with you!

Despite her tough finish, Huddle said she was “proud to share the road with” Linden, who became the first American woman to win in Boston since 1985.
