These were the top qualifying races for the 2018 Boston Marathon
Last year’s Boston Marathon tops the list.
On April 16, thousands of runners will hit the pavement for the Boston Marathon. But not just anyone can lace up a pair of sneakers and join the herd. To run as a qualified runner (not for charity), participants need to provide a qualifying time from another race that can attest to the 26.2 mile distance. The race must be certified by USA Track and Field, the Association for International Marathons and Distance (AIMS), or another national governing body.
The Boston Athletic Association has outlined other requirements for these races as well, including that they must have been advertised and promoted prior to the day of, have three or more officially entered competitors, and be outdoors.
Year after year, some races are regularly used to qualify, register, and be accepted for the Boston Marathon. Below is a list of the most popular qualifying races for this year’s event, as per accepted athletes.
Two notes on the list from the BAA:
The list below does NOT reflect how many individuals achieve a qualifying performance at each respective event. The list below does NOT represent a complete list of marathons used to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
