In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston on April 16, 2018. Are you running Boston? Here’s how to share your story on Boston.com.

Name: Colleen Farrell
Age: 33
From: Boston
Bib #: 26414

This year (for my second year), I’m running for Di Langguth and her family. Di and I met last year on the team when we were matched together. Through the patient-partner match, you get to know each other and meet up and talk about what brings you to the team. I knew from the moment she wouldn’t let me stop ice skating that she was tough, hysterical, and full of sass.

I was lucky enough to be paired with the same family again; only this time, Di is sicker than she was last year. She’s waiting at Children’s until she gets her new liver. It’s been a hard journey recently, but she is so strong, and her family is the most positive upbeat family I’ve ever met.

She and her family have inspired an entire team, and everyone who runs for ALF has rallied around Di. There’s also a hashtag for Di as one of her favorite things when times get tough is to look at photos of puppies and really all cute animals (#PetsForDi). She is Boston Strong.
