Why the Boston Marathon is so inspiring, in one 60-second video
The 121st Boston Marathon is full of inspiring stories, but this 60-second video, shot around the 10-mile mark, really captures the feeling of the Boston Marathon in a few short scenes. The video, shot in Natick Center, begins with a bearded man running while carrying an American flag.

That man is Staff Sgt. Jose Luis Sanchez, a Marine who lost the lower half of his left leg after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan in 2011.
After several elite women pass, the camera focuses on Lucas Carr and Matt Brown. Carr is an Army Ranger and Boston firefighter who first started running the Boston Marathon with Brown in 2012. Brown, from Norwood, was paralyzed in a high school hockey accident in 2010.
Following them are Gene Carter and Paul Appleby, who have run dozens of marathons and half marathons together.
All the while, spectators line the streets and cheer on the runners. They’re supporting so many incredible athletes in one place — that’s what the Boston Marathon is all about.
