Boston Marathon

Is there a better day on the Boston sports calendar than Patriots’ Day?

Debate the answer with Chad Finn and Boston sports fans at The Sports Q.

Welcome to Boston.com’s Sports Q, our daily conversation, initiated by you and moderated by Chad Finn, about a compelling topic in Boston sports. Here’s how it works: You submit questions to Chad through TwitterFacebook, email, his

Friday chat, and any other outlet you prefer. He’ll pick one each day (except for Saturday) to answer, then we’ll take the discussion to the comments. Chad will stop by several times per day to navigate. But you drive the conversation.

That question does not come from a reader. That comes from me, the answer is no way, and I’ll elaborate only briefly before setting a couple of parameters.

The elaboration: Patriots’ Day, with the Marathon and an a.m. first pitch on the Red Sox game, has been a cherished local holiday for generations. The tragedy of four years ago has only enhanced that, adding a significant and necessary element of solemnity to our traditional good-times welcoming of spring. This day is the best of us.

The parameters: Heck, there are no parameters. If you want to tell me there’s a more special sports-relevant day in Boston, or any other city for that matter, I’ll hear the argument. I won’t agree with it, even if your case involved duck boats and multiple trophies. But I’ll hear it. Let me know in the comments. And I’ll reply from somewhere on Boylston.
