Boston Marathon announces international elite field
Kenya’s Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot, who won the Boston Marathon in 2010 with a then-record time, headlines the field of international elite athletes for the 2013 race, event sponsor John Hancock Financial announced Tuesday.
Kenyan Moses Mosop, who won the 2011 Chicago Marathon, and 2010 New York City Marathon Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia are also entered along with last year’s Boston Marathon runner-up, Levy Matebo of Kenya.
On the women’s side, two-time Dubai Marathon winner Aselefech Medessa Mergia of Ethiopia, Amsterdam Marathon course-record-holder Meseret Hailu Debele of Ethiopia, and past Boston champion and 2012 Chicago runner-up Rita Jeptoo of Kenya will run Boston in 2013.
Defending champions Wesley Korir and Sharon Cherop were previously announced as returning in 2013, as were top Americans Ryan Hall, Meb Keflezighi, Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher.
