After Just Two Hockey East Losses Last Season, BC Drops a Pair This Week

The 2014-15 college hockey season hasn’t exactly started the way that the Boston College Eagles may have hoped.

In UConn’s first Hockey East game since joining the conference, the Huskies upset the Eagles 1-0 in Hartford on Wednesday. Things got worse on Friday, as BC allowed three unanswered goals in the third period to blow a 3-2 lead and lose to Boston University at home in this season’s first edition of the “Battle for Comm. Ave.’’

BC lost its second conference matchup in as many games and their third overall on the season after falling to UMass-Lowell on Oct. 10. The loss to BU drops the Eagles to 1-3 in the conference on the year; they’ve already tallied one more Hockey East loss than they recorded all last season.

BU, meanwhile, had opened the year with four straight wins before losing their first game on Oct. 31 against Providence. The Terriers are 3-1 in Hockey East play this season after going just 5-12-3 in the conference a season ago.

The Eagles entered this week ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com poll, but their position is sure to take a hit after these two losses. BU’s win at BC will undoubtedly move them up in the rankings, as the Terriers currently sit at No. 5, providing they take care of business at home against UConn on Saturday.

Other Hockey East teams currently in the USCHO top-20 include UMass-Lowell (No. 6), Providence (No. 12), Vermont (No. 14), and Notre Dame (No. 15).
