Life lately: The best of Celtics tunnel fashion in January 2026

A midseason look at NBA fashion in Boston and beyond.

Halfway through the season, the weather has settled in and the Celtics runway has shifted into winter mode. January brought heavier fabrics, bigger textures, layered looks, and the occasional flex. Here’s a midseason check on life lately in the tunnel.

Wintermaxxing

The winter arc period ended, and now we just have winter — a frigid one. What better way to deal than to embrace it? No avoiding the cold, rotting inside, or waiting for spring. People are fashionably wintermaxxing with velour, velvet, cashmere, and wool.

A hoodie is a hoodie, right? Wrong. It is a chic article of clothing with varying cuts, styles, and trends like cropped, embroidered, zip-up, and oversized, loved by Gen Z wearers like Jordan Walsh. Regular hoodies do still work.

Carrying precious cargo

Some like the texture of cargo pants while others dislike the bulk. Divisive but trending, they are all over the place — in Paris during Men’s Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2026, in the NBA tunnel (or the NFL, as seen on Stefon Diggs), or through glimpses of Jayson Tatum, not missing one sartorial beat from his seat on the bench.

But for Jaylen Brown, cargo may be about more than participating in a fleeting trend. Remember last year’s All-Star outfit? It matches his retrofuturism vibe, and happens to be hot right now because of a Y2k popularity surge.

Bleeding green

What’s opposite the Pantone flop

Chartreuse, olive, teal, or sage — 2025 color trends that bled into 2026. Perfect for Celtics Nation. There’s no green too niche or off-limits. Any kind will look fly in the tunnel or in your closet, especially in a quirky way. Perhaps faux leather jeans or a fluorescent green pop for balance and contrast.

Dressing for the occasion

Life lately: an NBA All-Star starter position a few days after retiring a high school jersey nearly one year after officially launching an independent apparel and sneaker brand. Why not flex in celebratory all-white? Why not show off in a look fit for a special day? Despite the loss that Monday night, Brown had reason to rejoice.
