"I love the intensity that KG has always brought to the game. He just plays the game with a fire and a rage that I resonate with."

Jaylen Brown has taken over as the Celtics’ number one option this season, and has propelled himself into the MVP conversation as a result of it.

Brown’s scoring has helped the Celtics to a 15-9 record as they sit in third in the Eastern Conference. He is averaging 29.1 points per game on nearly 50% shooting, and was ranked 10th on the latest NBA.com Kia MVP Ladder.

As Brown looks to continue trending upwards, he gave props to former MVP and Celtics champion, Kevin Garnett.

“KG is probably my favorite Celtic of all time,” Brown said while streaming on Twitch. “I love the intensity that KG has always brought to the game. He just plays the game with a fire and a rage that I resonate with.”

Garnett spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he’d become one of the more dominant defensive players in the league, and win MVP in 2004.

Following this tenure, he would move to Boston in 2007. This deal immediately paid off as he would help lead the Celtics to their 17th championship in 2008, along with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Garnett’s intensity is something that former teammates remember clearly, and current players admire.

“That’s just him,” Pierce said on Paul George’s podcast, Podcast P with Paul George in July. “He’s so intense, man. You don’t know what he’s going to do. Before the game, if you look at him before the game, before the jump ball, he’s going to be in a full sweat.”

This clearly worked for Garnett, as the way he approached the game helped him to earn All-NBA honors nine times along with 15 All-Star games through his career.

It is a trait that Brown believes he possesses as well, and he hopes can help lead the Celtics back to the playoffs.

“KG played the game like ‘man, f*** you,’ and I respect that,” Brown continued. “Because I feel when I go out there, especially during playoff time, it’s war. Ain’t no smiling, ain’t no laughing. It’s win or die.”

The Celtics will look to carry this mentality into Thursday night, as they travel to Milwaukee to play the Bucks.
