Ex-Celtics center Luke Kornet makes game-saving block during Spurs-Magic

If Wednesday night was any indication, former Celtics big man Luke Kornet appears to be having fun in San Antonio.

The 7-foot-1 inch center swatted a layup attempt from Orlando’s Moe Wagner as time expired Wednesday, allowing the Spurs to hang onto a 114-112 road victory.

Kornet pointed one hand to the crowd and held the other back as if he were shooting an arrow. Hugs and pats on the back from his San Antonio teammates followed. He beamed with pride after making the clutch play.

The triumph marked San Antonio’s seventh win in nine games. French superstar Victor Wembanyama has been out with a calf strain during that stretch.

Kornet, meanwhile, has been enjoying a bigger role with the Spurs than he ever had with the Celtics, averaging a career-high 24.9 minutes per game. He has started nine out of the 14 games he has played with San Antonio this season.

Kornet joined the Spurs on a 4-year, $41 million deal this past offseason. The Celtics wound up shedding salary, moving Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday while losing Kornet and Al Horford in free-agency.

Kornet and the Spurs will visit the Celtics at TD Garden on Jan. 10. The Celtics will travel to San Antonio on March 10.
