Celtics reportedly exercise team option for 2024 1st-round pick Baylor Scheierman
The 6-foot-6 forward out of Creighton will remain in Boston through at least the 2026-2027 season.
Baylor Scheierman will stay in Boston for the foreseeable future.
The Celtics decided to exercise Scheierman’s $2.74 million team option for the 2026-2027 season, via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Boston drafted Scheierman with the 30th overall pick in 2024 out of Creighton, where he averaged 18.5 points per game as a senior on his way to being named a third-team All-American.
But Scheierman has only played a small role for the Celtics so far, averaging 8.5 minutes per game and scoring just three points this season. However, he has shown potential for how he can impact this team for the better with his passing and hustle in Summer League.
Coming out of college, Scheierman was seen as a forward who could stretch the floor and knock down threes. While in school, he had a streak of hitting a 3-pointer in 48 straight games.

This shooting ability hasn’t exactly translated to the NBA, but the Celtics and Brad Stevens still like his vision and playmaking ability, as he served as a solid role player last season.
Boston will hope he remains a valuable piece to have over the next few years, as they try to get back to winning ways.
Coming off an unexpected victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Celtics are back in action Friday night in the NBA Cup against the 76ers.
