Weekend fit check: Style, statement pieces worn by Celtics during for big matchups at TD Garden
A few Celtics wore their Friday bests ahead of the loss to the Cavaliers, but they also wore strong fits ahead of Sunday's win over the Nuggets.
TD Garden played host to a pair of potential playoff previews over the weekend, with the Celtics hosting the Cavaliers on Friday before taking on the Nuggets on Sunday.
Jaylen Brown even teased the possibility of one of those matchups happening.
“Looking forward to the next time we see them,” Brown told reporters following the loss to the Cavs, the top team in the East, 123-116.
That night kicked off a weekend of wins and losses on the floor and behind the scenes on the “JetBlue Runway.”
Brown started the show with a moment of personal branding. At first glance, it looked like a simple green matching set. Yet if you squinted long enough, you saw his brand moniker “fchwpo” on the clothing.
Cavs star Donovan Mitchell also wore a tracksuit Friday night. Depending on your fashion point of view, the tracksuit, also known as “The Sunday Suit,” may remind you of old-school rap culture from the days of Run DMC, middle-aged white dudes doing whatever they do, or now-ubiquitous upscale athleisure.
Torrey Craig, in another Friday best, fully embraced team spirit. Not shy about sporting green in applications from shirts to bags, the newest Celtic to rack up minutes did so in a pair of lime green kicks that perfectly matched the vibrant active neon accents of the city uniform.
Craig continued the green vibe on Sunday, while many others on the team opted for neutrals, mostly falling back on black before capping off the weekend with a win against the West’s No. 2 seed Nuggets, 110-103.
Brown, in another self-branded look, this time in a different colorway, slid back into black.
Jayson Tatum added to the black rocking his favorite color block combination, black, white, tan, in a familiar polo-style silhouette. Known for supporting higher end but lesser known menswear and streetwear designers across the country, Tatum’s knit originated across the pond from designer Grace Wales Bonner.
The top players from across the league brought their A-game to the tunnel just as much as they brought it to the floor for an ultimate weekend of winners. If these past couple days of plays and fits indicate what’s to come as we move towards playoff season, the matchups, and the gear, will only get better from here.
