What’s out and what’s in, Celtics edition.

Let’s start with what was out for Saturday’s game: Several key players, including usuals from both teams’ starting lineups, were out. Scottie Barnes was out. Jrue Holiday was out.

Now for what was in.

Denim is in. Cuffed, low-rise, wide-leg, illusion, maxi, embellished, barrel, and even skinny … if there’s a way to style denim, it is happening in 2024 and will likely continue to trend into 2025

Denim was everywhere this year, on high-end designer runways, in everyday closets, and at TD Garden. Featured in a “Ford Fit,” Jayson Tatum dressed in a classic, Americana-style matching denim jeans and jacket combo, and rounded out the look with a crisp white tee and lots of “ice” in the form of ornate necklaces, two of them, both fully encrusted in diamond or similar stone.

Speaking of Americana fashion, shade might have been in the house, too. As Boston welcomed Toronto to its home court, “Freedom Doves” adorned Tatum’s outfit, a motif found across multiple 3.Paradis products. There’s no saying or knowing if that was intentional, but there was that fairly recent beef between a certain American and Canadian

Either way, Tatum’s look was fresh, clean, simple, icy.

Also, in: The latest Celtics City Edition design, released Thursday and in play for the first time last night. Set against a sea of red jerseys, the “Action Green,” a lime-like hue with hints of yellow, already lively and luminous, had extra pop and pizzazz. It was a smart choice for a debut — having green up against its opposition on the color wheel meant high contrast and high visibility, including for the 741 Performance Rover sneaker in Black Moon as seen on Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard.

Asked about it on-air during the NBC Sports Boston Celtics Pregame Live show, “The green is not the traditional green,” former Celtics guard and current NBC Sports Boston analyst Eddie House explained, “but it’s bright because the Celtics are shining,” House said.

NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin reported from the sidelines that she spoke to Al Horford before the game. According to Chin, he acknowledged that “we prefer traditional in Boston” but expressed hope the design would resonate. Chin also said that coaches and staff seem to like them — even head coach Joe Mazzulla. When she asked him during a press conference what he likes about them, Mazzulla replied, “They say Celtics on them.”

Celtics analyst Brian Scalabrine’s pregame take? “Kids like the neon stuff.”

The Celtics’ look was tight as their overtime win against the Toronto Raptors, 126-123. The denim and ice dazzled off court and the neon green dominated on it.

What’s next and in store for the Celtics runway? We’ll see on Tuesday, Nov. 19 when they play against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the next Emirates NBA Cup match.
