Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown showed unity in style and drip on Celticsā first night of the NBA Cup
Two outfits, one team: Tuesday night's style choices showcased camaraderie, connection, and cohesion.
The parquet popped Tuesday night — and the Jays popped out with style — on the first night of the Emirates NBA Cup.
Wearing coordinated, complementary outfits, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum showed fans through their fashion choices that they were in lockstep with each other — though the Celtics lost their first group play game to the Atlanta Hawks, 117-116.
Before fashion design, let’s talk court design. During the NBA Cup, each team swaps their original court design for one specific to the league’s in-season tournament. Much has been said regarding this year’s updated design after last year’s missteps. This time around, the court’s green looked closer to the familiar classic shade, and the design came off as bold and clean.

The Jays’ tunnel fashion followed that same vibe. Both Brown and Tatum stepped out in matching, head-to-toe black and gray, making a joint statement in an understated way.
Brown wore a Louis Vuitton statement jacket, a designer he regularly likes to wear (Tatum supports LVMH, too). The outfit’s focal point, a Monogram Denim Hooded Blouson, took center stage. “The irregular motif, with its effect of watery distortion,” the brand’s website states, “brings a cool graphic vibe to this casual piece. A tall collar protects against sea breezes while golden dome buttons recall this collection’s naval inspirations.”
In other words, it drips.
Tatum’s outfit was less obviously branded, but by no means was the ensemble less high-end. His statement jacket — or, really, a statement vest — patterned in multiple shades of gray resembling military camouflage, featured a simple stitched indication of its designer, RTA, on the left breast pocket.
Oftentimes, the Jays are not on the same page with their fashion choices and brand alignments. Tatum typically opts for a simple, clean aesthetic and openly partners with Nike. He dresses demurely and has his own line of Jordans.
Brown famously does his own thing — from his summertime beef with Nike to mind-bending accessories and the launch of his own 741 signature shoe and performance clothing line.
Tuesday night’s outfits showcased camaraderie, connection, and cohesion. Yet the Celtics stars managed to maintain unique and bespoke points of view — Tatum, with the ready-to-wear availability of RTA juxtaposed with Brown and the luxury of Louis Vuitton. Brown, originally from the Atlanta Metro area, also gave a nod to his hometown, a city known for promoting and elevating Black fashionistas and designers.
Will “the boys wear black” again when they return to Boston? We’ll see when they play on a more typical court Saturday, Nov. 16, against the Toronto Raptors.
