The Celtics have let go of Lonnie Walker after the veteran guard signed a one-year contract with Boston in August, and he’s made the decision to go his own way.

Walker’s non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract would have granted him a $77,500 bonus if he joined the Celtics’ G League affiliate in Maine. However, he decided to “pursue other opportunities,” according to John Karalis from Boston Sports Journal. Shortly after the news came out, Walker had his own message to share.

“I’m only 25,” he posted on X, along with the folded hands emoji. “All in due time!”

Despite Walker doing well during the preseason — even scoring 20 points during a game against the Raptors — the Celtics waived him from their roster due to salary cap penalties. Signing the 2018 first-round pick would have cost around $10 million.

“I know the stars will align,” Walker also wrote on X. “Self belief is the best belief.”
