‘We kept the receipts’: Celtics shared montage of pundits picking Mavericks to win NBA title
Enjoy the Celtics' extended cut of pundits being confidently wrong about the NBA Finals.
While other New England teams have often praised the virtues of “ignore the noise” as a slogan, the Celtics appear to have bottled some of it up to retrospectively enjoy in the afterglow of victory.
Despite amassing a league-best 64-18 record and sweeping the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Celtics were by no means a unanimous choice to win. Many pundits picked the Mavericks.
But following Boston’s NBA Finals win over Dallas in five games, the Celtics’ social media team unleashed a montage of pundits speaking prior to the matchup and being confidently wrong about what would happen.
“We kept the receipts,” reads the Celtics’ caption.
In total, the video shows 12 pundits making the wrong choice, interspersed with shushing sounds and footage of Celtics players celebrating. The list of so-called experts includes familiar faces Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless, Nick Wright, and several others.
Notably, even “Air Corgi” — a delightful dog who made NBA picks via shooting a mini-basketball with its nose — warranted a spot, as the pup erroneously forecasted a Dallas win in seven games.
