There were 10 days in between the Celtics’ Eastern Conference finals clinching game against the Indiana Pacers (May 27) and Game 1 of the NBA Finals versus the Dallas Mavericks (June 6). Naturally, Boston’s roster was stuck trying to find ways to keep themselves occupied off the practice court during that span.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown said he kept himself entertained with one iconic, and lengthy, movie series.

“A lot of our guys probably spend time with their family and stuff like that, but I don’t have a family. I’m single,” Brown told Good Morning America. “So I’ve been binge-watching Harry Potter.”

All eight films in the “Harry Potter” series have run times of over two hours. In total, watching the entire set of movies would take over 19 hours.

When asked which “Harry Potter” character he identifies with the most, Brown responded with Dumbledore and Hermoine.

“[Hermoine is] also the one that just keeps everybody on track. She’s the one that gets stuff done,” he said. “That’s me. Like, ‘We gotta get this done.’ I’m not waiting ‘til the last minute. You got an assignment? We gonna get it done first day. We not gonna wait ‘til the last minute.”

Brown might have spent countless hours watching the films during his downtime, but his focus clearly never drifted away from basketball. His playoff efficiency continued into Thursday’s NBA Finals opener.

The 27-year-old logged 22 points in 37 minutes of action to help the Celtics beat the Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1. He shot 58.3 percent from the field, and 33.3 percent from three-point range, while slamming a few monster dunks, and grabbing six rebounds in a win that saw several of his teammates post standout performances.

Brown stood out on the defensive end of the ball, too. He notched three blocks and steals apiece, and clamped Dallas star Luka Doncic throughout the night. Brown ended the game as a +12.

Despite Boston’s blowout victory, Kristaps Porzingis’s impressive return, and Brown’s own impactful stat line, he reminded his team that they can’t let off the gas quite yet.

“Don’t get cute fellas. Come on, it’s just one game,” Brown told his teammates in the locker room postgame.
