Celtics’ Jayson Tatum earns All-NBA honors, but Jaylen Brown isn’t as lucky

Jaylen Brown was an All-NBA Second Team selection last season.

For the third consecutive season, Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum earned a spot on the All-NBA First Team.

But unlike last season, Tatum wasn’t joined by his teammate, Jaylen Brown, on the list of 15 All-NBA selections this year.

The NBA released the results of All-NBA voting on Wednesday, with Tatum sharing All-NBA First Team honors alongside Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic. Tatum now has four total All-NBA selections in his career.

Brown was on the outside looking in at a Third Team selection, finishing just 20 points behind Suns guard Devin Booker for the final spot on that five-man grouping.

Even though Tatum’s scoring dipped this season on a deep Celtics team (30.1 points per game in 2023 to 26.9 this season), he rounded out his overall game while becoming a more efficient scorer.

Along with shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, Tatum averaged a career-high 4.9 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game. The 26-year-old forward is already eligible for a super max extension this summer — which is expected to be worth up to $315 million over five years after earning an All-NBA First Team selection last season.

Brown, who was named to the All-NBA Second Team last season, averaged 23.0 points. 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this year. The 27-year-old swingman signed a record-setting super max extension last season with Boston after earning All-NBA honors.

The All-NBA Second Team featured Jalen Brunson, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant,  Anthony Edwards, and Kawhi Leonard, while the All-NBA Third Team included Booker, Steph Curry, Tyrese Haliburton,  LeBron James, and Domantas Sabonis.
