Derrick White sunk his 185th 3-pointer Monday night, triggering a $500,000 contract bonus. The wide-open corner three, White’s first of the night, came during the first quarter of the Celtics’ 118-104 win over the Hornets

The bump, which brings White’s total earnings to $18.5 million for the 2023-24 season, will cost the Celtics an additional $500,000 in luxury tax penalties, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. It’s likely that the bonus will be factored into White’s salary for the 2024-25 season, meaning the 29-year-old guard could earn up to $20.6 million.

White finished Monday’s game in Charlotte with 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists. He shot 40 percent from deep, spot on with his season average. Before joining the Celtics at the 2022 trade deadline, his single season career-high for made 3s was 84.

Now, White is posting career-best performances across multiple categories. He’s averaging 4.4 rebounds, 2.7 3-point makes, 1.2 blocks, and 15.6 points per game.

The backcourt star could be in line for more bonuses before the end of the season. According to White’s contract, he could see extra earnings for playing 70 or more games – a milestone he’s on track to achieve – or for securing a spot on the NBA All-Defensive team.
