Brad Stevens explained what the Celtics will look for in the buyout market

"I don’t anticipate, you know, a person that vaults into our every-night rotation."

The NBA trade deadline passed on Thursday, but the Celtics could still make another addition to the roster prior to the playoffs.

Boston made a series of deadline deals — acquiring Xavier Tillman and Jaden Springer — but retained an open roster spot.

As a result, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens will be able to potentially add a player who was bought out of his contract by another team (though there are limitations due to salary cap restrictions). The buyout market could offer some intriguing possibilities, but Stevens noted during a Friday press conference that any additional signing would be made primarily to help the team’s depth.

“I think we just have to see, number one, is if there’s somebody that can provide great depth for our group,” Stevens told reporters. “But I don’t anticipate, you know, a person that vaults into our every-night rotation.”

One player who could claim the final roster spot is already with the organization.

Neemias Queta, a 24-year-old center, signed with Boston in September on a two-way contract. Stevens is keeping the teams’ options open, but praised Queta’s contributions.

“We have to continue to evaluate everything for that last roster spot we have opened, but Neemie’s done a great job.”

The Celtics are currently 39-12, the best record in the NBA. Boston will play the Wizards at TD Garden on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
