Yes, the Celtics are frustrating, but it’s too soon to give up on them
Boston Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both were named to the All-Star game in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics announced on Tuesday.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania first reported the inclusion of both Tatum and Brown. The All-Star game will take place on March 7 in Atlanta.
The Celtics’ recent struggles have come in spite of the combined brilliance of Tatum and Brown this season. Tatum is averaging 26 points per game on 44.8/39.0/86.8 shooting splits despite struggling with the aftereffects of a positive COVID-19 test. Brown, meanwhile, has scored 25.5 points per game on 49.7/40.9/76.6 shooting splits with a career-high 3.9 assists per game.
Boston has leaned heavily on its two young stars — Brown (24), Tatum (22) and Kemba Walker all have usage percentages over 29. Only the Brooklyn Nets with Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving have three players above that total.
The full Eastern Conference reserve roster includes Harden, Tatum, Brown, Zach LaVine, Ben Simmons, Nikola Vucevic, and Julius Randle. The starters were announced last week: Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Notable snubs in the Eastern Conference include Domantas Sabonis, Trae Young and Gordon Hayward.
The Western Conference starters include Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Kawhi Leonard and Nikola Jokic. Reserves include Chris Paul, Paul George, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Zion Williamson and Anthony Davis.
