Enes Kanter met with Hilary and Bill Clinton to discuss human rights violations in Turkey

Enes Kanter’s fight for human rights reform in Turkey continues.

The Celtics center met with Bill and Hillary Clinton on Monday to discuss the violations occurring in his home county. Kanter has been a long-time advocator for justice in Turkey, speaking out against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and supporting religious cleric Fethullah Gülen. Kanter’s support caused him to be labeled as an affiliate of a terrorist group, and as a result, his passport was revoked and he was detained in a Romanian airport in 2017. This past January, a warrant for his arrest was reportedly issued  and in July his basketball clinic at the Islamic Center of Long Island in Westbury, New York was canceled for what Kanter believes were threats from Turkish “goons.”

Kanter has earned the support of several politicians, the Clintons being among them. He thanked them on Twitter for their support and even gave them custom Celtics jerseys as a gift.

Kanter also tweeted selfies with both Bill and Hilary and shared a funny emoji-exchange he had with the 42nd President of the United States in an attempt to get him to come to a Celtics game.
