Celticsā season ticket holders need not worry about losing one of their 41 games to a venue overseas, as the 76ers are the home team for the Jan. 11 game. Tickets for the game go on sale in October.
āThe Boston Celtics have enjoyed a loyal global following for decades, and we welcome the opportunity to connect again with our international fans,ā said Celtics team president Rich Gotham in a statement. āWeāre happy to be returning to London to play our rivals the 76ers in front of Londonās fans, and look forward to the exciting atmosphere at The O2.ā
It will mark the first time the Celtics have played a regular-season game in London, and the eighth time the NBA has hosted a game in London during the regular season. Bostonās only other regular season contest outside the United States or Canada came on Dec. 3, 2015 against the Sacramento Kings in Mexico City. The Celtics have also participated in eight international exhibition games spanning Madrid, Rome, London, Istanbul and Milan.
The game will be aired live on CSN New England and 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Tickets for all Celtics games played at TD Garden during the 2017-18 NBA season will go on sale on Friday, Aug. 18.
The 76ers will be playing their second game in the UK and first game in London, having previously played a preseason game in Manchester against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.
Because the 76ers are the home team, season-ticket holders with automatic payment plans will not be charged for one game. Season-ticket holders who have paid in full can request a full refund or roll over the charges for future game purchases.
The Sixers went 28-54 last season and the Celtics had the best record in the Eastern Conference at 53-29.
