Paul Pierce doesn’t think LeBron James is the NBA’s best player right now

Paul Pierce has never been afraid to speak his mind. And that apparently hasn’t changed even though he’s periodically a guest commentator on nationally televised broadcasts of the NBA Finals.

Speaking after ABC’s broadcast of Game 2, Pierce came out with a strong statement about Kevin Durant.

“He may be the best player in the world today,” Pierce said after listing some of the Durant’s traits and accomplishments.

The assertion drew instantaneous response from other commentators, who still believe the distinction belongs to LeBron James. They inquired about what Pierce was drinking out of his mug.

“Hey, this is ‘Truth Juice,'” Pierce responded.

And despite disagreeing with Pierce about Durant being the best in the league, fellow analyst Chauncey Billups continued the praise of Durant, noting his five blocks and defensive effort.
