Kelly Olynyk was ‘juiced up’ after Gonzaga’s Final Four victory

Gonzaga advanced to their first-ever NCAA Championship game with a 77-73 win over South Carolina, and former Bulldog Kelly Olynyk couldn’t be happier.

The Celtics big man posted a celebratory video to Instagram on Saturday, with the caption: “We goin to the ship WHAT!?! We goin to the ship WHAT!?! LETS GO ZAGS!”

According to ESPN’s Chris Forsberg, Olynyk said he was ‘juiced up’ following his alma matter’s big win.

Olynyk didn’t let his celebrations negatively impact his play in the Celtics’ Sunday afternoon contest against the New York Knicks, as the center shot 5 of 7 off the bench and grabbed four rebounds.

While at Gonzaga, Olynyk wasn’t much of a force his freshman and sophomore years, averaging just over 12 minutes and under six points per game both seasons.

After redshirting his junior year, he returned for a stellar senior season and averaged 26.4 minutes, 17.8 points, and 7.3 rebounds per game, helping lead the Zags to their first ever No. 1 ranking in school history.

While Olynyk’s squad ultimately lost in the Round of 32 to Wichita State, the Toronto native is hoping for a better outcome for this year’s team.

Forsberg tweeted that Olynyk says Gonzaga basketball is “knocking on the door,” and “if you knock enough, somebody’s going to let you in. Hopefully it’s North Carolina.”
