Boston Celtics

Watch Ray Allen’s first Celtics game-winner from 9 years ago today

Expectations were sky-high when the Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen from the Timberwolves and Sonics. Dubbed “The Big Three” along with longtime Celtic Paul Pierce, the new crop of Celtics stars opened the 2007-08 season with a bang, blowing out the Wizards 103-83 at the TD Garden.

Their second game was a lot tougher, on the road against a Raptors team that would go on to make the playoffs. The Raptors pushed the Celtics to the brink, but their new sharpshooter saved the day:

Allen had 33 points in the game, hitting 7 of 11 from behind the arc. Garnett chipped in with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and the Celtics improved to 2-0. They had an incredible 26-3 record at the end of the 2007 calendar year, and finished 66-16 overall, bringing the Celtics their first championship in 21 years.
