Celtics release 2016-17 schedule, will face Knicks on Christmas
Boston will make 22 national television appearances over its 82-game schedule.
A Christmas day game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden highlights the Celtics’ 2016-17 schedule, which was released by the NBA on Thursday.
The Boston-New York holiday matchup will kick off the NBA Christmas day showcase at 12 p.m. ET and will be one of the Celtics’ 22 appearances on national television this season. That total is a sharp increase from the 2015-16 season when Boston was only showcased on national television nine times.
Boston’s revamped squad, highlighted by free-agent addition Al Horford, will make 10 appearances on TNT, nine on ESPN and three on ABC. All six of the team’s matchups against the Golden State Warriors (Nov. 18, March 8) and Cleveland Cavaliers (Nov. 3, Dec. 29, March 1, April 5) will be featured in prime time on TNT or ESPN.
The Celtics will open up their campaign on Oct. 26 at TD Garden against the Brooklyn Nets, but the team will spend the majority of the first two months of the regular season away from home. Eighteen of Boston’s first 29 games will come on the road, including trips to San Antonio and Cleveland.
In January, the Celtics play 10 of 14 games at home. The team finishes out the regular season with nine of their final 12 games at TD Garden, including a season-high six game homestand. Boston also has just 17 back-to-back games in 2016-17, the team’s lowest number in four seasons.
