The pick is in.

The Boston Celtics selected Jaylen Brown out of the University of California with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday night at Barclays Center. The Celtics added the 6’7″ swingman amid speculation that they might move the No. 3 pick in a trade. It is the first of eight selections that Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge had at his disposal when the draft began.

“I know Boston has a lot of history, a lot of tradition, and I want to add to that,” Brown said after being picked.

Brown, 19, averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during his lone season with Cal en route to being named the 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. In that single NCAA season, he impressed scouts with his NBA-ready athleticism and defensive versatility.

Following the selection, Celtics majority owner Wyc Grouseck told season-ticket holders that Brown would not be traded, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.
