Not long after winning the Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award, LeBron James shared a moment with the honor’s namesake.

“You paved the way,” James told Russell on the floor at Oracle Arena following the Cavaliers’ win over the Warriors in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals on Sunday night.

Averaging 29.7 points per game during the 2016 NBA Finals, James helped bring the city of Cleveland its first championship in 52 years.

Russell, an 11-time NBA champion with the Celtics, was asked for his thoughts on James receiving the NBA Finals MVP award.

“He’s deserving. I can’t think of a better player to have it,” Russell told Sporting News after Game 7.
