Nate Robinson spent 11 seasons in the NBA with eight different teams, and is the only player in league history to win the Slam Dunk Contest three times (’06, ’09, ’10). Now, the 5’9 ex-guard is about to try his hand at pursuing a career on the gridiron.

Robinson will try out for the Seattle Seahawks on Monday as a defensive back, according to two people close to the situation via the Washington Post.

Originally enrolled at the University of Washington on a football scholarship, Robinson last played as a cornerback during his freshman year in 2002 before deciding to concentrate on basketball his sophomore year. In 13 games, he intercepted two passes and made 34 tackles.

“If you ask people around here, Nate Robinson, his best sport is football,” Robinson said on March 10. “And people tell me all the time, ‘If anyone can do it, go play football, it’s you.’”

Robinson averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game in 618 career games in the NBA. He signed a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 16 before being waived on Oct. 29 after just two games.
