Jahlil Okafor almost joined the Boston Celtics, a source told the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett.

On 98.5 CBS Boston’s “Toucher and Rich Show’’ on Friday, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said the team was “very close’’ to move a “big package’’ of players, but the mystery team backed out of the deal at the last minute. It was a trade scenario “never reported,’’ Ainge said.

According to the Herald, that mystery team was the 76ers, and Okafor was on the table.

Since the 76ers picked Okafor third overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, he has averaged 30.2 minutes, 17.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.2 assists. He shoots 49.4 percent from the field and 69 percent from the foul line.

The rookie center was involved in a fight in Boston in November 2015, and was suspended two games for the incident. Also that month, he was reportedly pulled over by a police officer for driving 108 mph.
