Boston Celtics swingman Evan Turner was at Ohio State University on Tuesday night to have his No. 21 jersey retired by his alma mater. He was joined by teammate and fellow former Buckeye Jared Sullinger, as well as Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

In an emotional pregame speech in which he thanked his mother for everything she’s done to help him acheive his dream of becoming an NBA basketball player, Turner also had a message for Ainge.

“Oh, and Danny Ainge, thanks for coming. In July, you can pay me all you want,’’ said Turner, who will be an unrestricted free agent as the end of the season.

Turner played three seasons for Ohio State. He won the 2009-10 Big Ten Player of the Year award and is the Big Ten Conference record-holder for most career Conference Player of the Week awards with eight.
