Paul Pierce pregame ‘fight’ reminded Boston of stabbing incident
A strange celebration, for sure.
Paul Pierce returned to TD Garden Wednesday night for what might have been his last time as a player. While the Boston crowd didn’t hesitate to give the 15-year Celtics vet an ovation, Pierce’s current teammates motivated him in a different way.

Upon the announcement of his name, the Garden’s warm reception quickly turned into a frenzy of fake punches from Clippers players, with Pierce playing along as the victim. While it could have been good clean fun, some publications, such as Deadspin and UPROXX, are suggesting that the celebration could have been a reenactment of the time Pierce was stabbed 11 times at a Boston nightclub in 2000.
Whatever it was, it didn’t seem to affect Pierce too badly, as he managed to score a few baskets despite his Clippers losing to the Celtics in overtime.
