Doc Rivers: Celtics can make a run because ‘they’ve got a bunch of junkyard dogs’
Former Celtics coach Doc Rivers is impressed by the way the current Celtics are playing.
Rivers, who returned to TD Garden for the third time as coach of the Clippers on Wednesday night, had nothing but praise for the Celtics after his former team defeated his current one, 139-134, in overtime.
“Playing hard is a skill. Everyone just can’t do it. There are guys that are energy players, and there are guys who don’t play with energy,’’ Rivers told reporters after the game. “The Celtics have a whole team full of energy players — and talented energy players.’’

The Celtics’ win kept them in position for the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
“They can make a run. Listen, they’re not scared of anybody. They’ve got a bunch of junkyard dogs who can play,’’ Rivers said.
For those who wonder if Rivers still roots for the Celtics when he’s not playing against them, his message was clear.
“All the time,’’ he said.
Rivers was 171-168 in his nine seasons with Boston, winning a title by defeating the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals. He is in his third season coaching the Clippers.
